The 17 U selects made the trip north to Edmonton this weekend to compete in Volleyball Alberta’s 3rd Premier tournament.  Power pool play started early Saturday morning with the girls facing off against SAS Valor 17, NAVC 17 and Outer Limits 18U; all teams they had played in VA#2.  Anticipating an intense match against a very defensive St Albert team, the girls came in “guns a blazing” pulling out a win to start the day. Looking to avenge their loss against NAVC 17 last tournament, 17 U played another solid match, ultimately achieving their goal.  Winning their final match against Outer Limits, the selects ended round robin play finishing first in their pool.  Falling to FOG 18 in the crossover match, the 17U team found themselves in unfamiliar territory, be relegated to the consolation side of the bracket.   Although ending the day on a sour note, the girls took the evening to refocus and solidify team bonds.

As in previous VA tournaments, it wouldn’t be Sunday if the Selects weren’t facing the Junior Dinos in quarter-final play.  Playing with vigor and poise, the girls rallied hard, pushing the match to 3 games, ultimately coming up short.  Meeting Outer Limits 18 yet again in the next match, 17 U persevered with a convincing win propelling them to their final match of the weekend against Elite 18U.  Playing another intense match, 403 lost by 2 points in game 3, placing 14th overall in Division 1.  Playing with intensity and heart the team showed great strength in character, grace in the face of defeat and truly showed what it means to bleed 403 purple.

As always, thank you to the coaches for their continued support and their dedication to the team; to Sydney and the amazing food coordinators for providing such nutritious and delicious meals throughout the weekend; and to all the parent fans and volunteers that made the trek to support and cheer on the team.  Go 403!
