14U Selects were on the road once again to snowy Edmonton for Volleyball Alberta Premier 2 (why does it always snow when we go to Edmonton!). Seeded 3rd, the girls pool play started off with a win over Lacombe Thunder (25-14, 25-16). Canada West Black then provided a spirited match requiring 3 sets to determine the victor (25-10, 15-25, 15-9). The final pool play match vs South Peace Volleyball Club Meerkats saw the Selects lose their first match of the day (22-25, 17-25). Placing 2nd in the pool this set up a cross-over against a feisty Lethbridge Flare team who came out serving extremely well. After dropping the first set (21-25), the Selects rallied in the second set to a solid win (25-19). In the deciding third set, the Selects set the pace and took the set 15-7.

Sunday morning, after much digging and sweeping of snow, the quarter final match-up was against a very tough Canuck White. 403 came out strong at the start of both sets but did not sustain the momentum to the end. Although losing both sets in the match, the team held their own early in both matches (16 – 25, 18 – 25). This set up a fifth place matchup vs the South East Alberta Volleyball Club Rattlers. The first set was a close one. The Rattlers eventually pulled out a close 25-27 win. The Selects carried by momentum from the first set competed hard to win the second set 25-20. In the deciding set, the girls again got out to strong start and maintained their focus taking the set 15-12 and the match 2-1. Way to go 14U Selects and congrats on a strong 5th play showing at your second premier. There was remarkable play from everyone this weekend; a tremendous development weekend! The outcome is a great position leading into the Provincial Championships. Thanks again to coaches, parents and chauffeurs.
