Since 2008, the 403 Selects Volleyball Club has been home to many young, aspiring athletes and coaches looking to give back to their volleyball community. Andrea Oh, an Assistant Coach since 2014, has not only been there to support the U16 and U17 athletes as an Assistant Coach, she has also been a leader in the area of strength, conditioning and injury prevention programs for our teams.

Recently, Andrea posted an article on her local blog with highlights local businesses, organizations, and community events here in Calgary … and wrote about her journey from an elite volleyball athlete to a coach with 403 Selects! Below is a short excerpt of her article:

When I started with the 403 Selects U16 Volleyball team I had NO IDEA what to expect. I had a lot of things working against me from the start:

  • I only knew one person in the entire 403 Selects organization (Carsten Stanjeck).
  • I had never taken a coaching certification course.
  • They were two months into the season when I started.
  • I had not participated in an actual volleyball practice in over ten years.
  • I had NEVER played with the Mikasa MVA200 (blue and yellow) ball.
  • I was outnumbered by a dozen 15 and 16 year old girls.
  • I wasn’t fond of the colour purple.

Regardless, I went in with an open mind and hoped for the best … and THE BEST was exactly what I got!
