Excitement and success was in the air for the U17 girls, who wrapped up a weekend of intense competition at the third U17/U18 AVA, held in Calgary on April 2-3. After placing first in their pool, the girls went on to earn 9th place in Division 2, setting them up for an 8th place seeding in Division 1 for the U17 Provincial tournament slated for Calgary, this weekend.

The girls played hard, giving it their all and although there were a few disappointments, the girls gained confidence and hit the sweet spot where they played “as one” going 3-0 on Sunday – a place that few teams have the pleasure of attaining. Nice work girls!

With the season well under way and some exciting wins under their belts, the girls participated in a series of high intensity scrimmage tournaments over the last two weekends. The first was a one-day women’s tournament at the University of Calgary that featured many former university level players.

Last Sunday, 403 travelled to Lethbridge to scrimmage with some of the province’s top teams – Panthers 17U, Canuck 17U and LVC Jr. Kodiaks 18U. This was a great opportunity for competitive game play in a more relaxed setting, and all of the teams had a blast!

The impromptu tournaments provided ample stomping grounds to hone their skills even further, setting them up in prime stead for the Provincials. The team trains together for the last time on April 22nd before a team dinner and video review session and some team bonding activities heading into the weekend.

Good luck 17U 403 Selects!!
