Sixty (60) U14 girls teams converged in Calgary on the weekend of March 16th & 17th for AVA #2. By the time the dust settled and the stands emptied, our 403 Selects team was leaving the gym with the Division 1 gold medals!

Following a silver medal performance at AVA #1, we entered the tournament seated second: Pool B, position 1 in a four team pool. Following pool play on Saturday where we were 3 – 0, with no lost sets, we played the Canuck Flame in our cross over game that night, winning two sets straight it guaranteed us a run for the gold on Sunday.

We started Sunday morning where we finished off Saturday night, playing another Canucks team, this time it was the Flash. We won two straight again, as we did against the Park Rangers, thus bringing us to the gold medal match against the FOG Hawks.

Having lost to the Hawks in AVA #1, over the past month the girls have worked hard to improve their defense and other aspects of their game that left them with a second place finish in AVA #1. Set one went back and forth, but in the end we were able to pull it off with a 26 – 24 victory. The second set was equally competitive but this time it went to the Hawks 25 – 19. Set three started off with a bang for us and continued on through to a 15 – 7 victory!

In the end we had accomplished what we had set out to do, that being continuous improvement. Along the way, a lot of fun was had and the support from family, friends and other 403 Select teams who came to watch us play is greatly appreciated.
