Santisouk Phommachakr

Head Coach

contact: coachsanti@403selects.ca

Santisouk is entering her 21st year of coaching volleyball.

Santisouk grew up playing school and club volleyball (15U to 18U) in Montréal, Québec where she was awarded on the all-star regional team in her grade 11 season and also, athlete of the year in her grade 12.   Santisouk then joined the McGill University Martlets Volleyball Varsity team while completing her Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. She and her team played at the 1997 CIAU in Edmonton.  After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she was offered an engineer position in Calgary, where she moved to in 1998.  Santisouk still plays competitive volleyball as a setter on the U.N. Masters team which competes in a women’s Tier 1 league, tournaments, Provincials, Nationals and also at the World Masters.

Apart from volleyball, she enjoys traveling the world, trekking, yoga, surfing, birding, cooking and spending time with her friends and family.  She is also a nature, wildlife and sport photographer which is another of her passion.  On rainy days, she likes to spend time in her darkroom.

Santisouk’s coaching philosophy is to develop players to the best of their potential (to hopefully pursue volleyball at the post-secondary level if desired).  Her coaching is focused on high expectations and goals based on technical development, work ethic and team work in a positive environment. She also strongly believes in the benefits of the sport in the player’s growth in life.

“I hope to pass along my passion for the sport of volleyball to future athletes.  Outside from my engineering and photography work, I sleep and breathe volleyball. If I’m not playing, I’m coaching, if I’m not coaching, I’m thinking or watching volleyball… or simply, hanging out with Volleyball friends. I’m very excited and thrilled to be continuing on with this age group of 403 girls and looking forward to a great season!”

            Brittany Molvik

            Assistant Coach

Brittany joins the 403 family this season with 4 years of coaching experience in the Calgary area. She started her playing career when she was 10 years old and since then, played year-round – indoor and on the beach court – until she graduated in 2012. She was a provincial level outside-hitter and spent 2 summers training with a small group of elite athletes from across the country to compete in the AAU Junior National Volleyball championships in the USA. Brittany helped lead her 16U Provincial team to win the Western Elite Championship in 2010 as a starting outside and played an integral part in securing multiple division 1 medals for her club teams in 16U, 17U and 18U. Brittany specializes in defense and tactical training and is excited to continue to pass on her knowledge to the next generation of athletes.

Matt joins 403 Selects this season after finishing up his club career. He was relatively late to the sport of volleyball, having been a national-level baseball pitcher. The experience of high school volleyball at Foothills Composite made him shift his focus.

Matt spent 3 seasons playing for the Foothills Volleyball Club, taking on the role of a team captain. Along with high school and club, he played beach volleyball during the summers, winning several medals at the 18U level.

Although he had offers to play post-secondary, Matt opted to remain in the area and focus on pursuing a B. Comm at U of C. He is excited for this opportunity to develop as a coach.
