Day One

The third premiere for the 403 Selects U16 started out with an early, intense start as they battled the U of A Pandas in their first power pool game. Both teams gave it everything, with 403 coming out with a 19-17 win in the third set. The rest of pool play would continue to be exciting with two more close wins for 403 against fantastic opponents the Dino Raptors and SPVC, putting the Selects into first place going into the crossover. The crossover game was a matchup against the Southern Alberta Volleyball Club (SAVC). SAVC played with a lot of heart and emotion and rallied to make an exciting 3 game match. Both teams fought hard and the 403 Selects won the match with a close score of 15-13 in the third, advancing to the quarterfinals.

Day Two

Day two was another early start, but the girls showed up happy to support the players from the Humboldt Broncos and to recognize the Logan Boulet Effect in their green warm-up shirts on Green Shirt Day. The quarterfinal game was an exciting two set match against the Northern Alberta Volleyball Club (NAVC). This was the first time these two teams have matched up and the 403 Selects rose to the challenge against a very good defensive team and advanced to the semifinal.

The Selects’ semifinal game was against the familiar faces of the Canuck Reds. It was an intense match and both teams fought hard. The scores were close but the Selects pulled out another win to take them to the final against the Pandas. The final had a slow start for 403 dropping the first set to the Pandas. The second set was a battle to the end with the Selects winning the set 25-23. The Selects regrouped between sets and came out to a commanding lead.  The Pandas continued to fight hard to the end but 403 Selects did not let up, winning the gold medal.

Congratulations to the players and coaches for a great weekend!
