The 403 Selects 16U’s regular season began with Premier #1 Alberta South’s games played at Genesis Center in Northeast Calgary. This year the team consists of MacKenzie Beblow, Maryn Boldon, Denae Benard, Jayden Easingwood, Kylee Glanville, Regan Ingram, Amanda Holyoake, Haley Kennedy, Claire Newsome, Sonya Nielsen, Isla Olesen, and Jenna Rivard. The head coach is Carsten Stanjek; Sydney Litwin, Anne Krywitsky, and Sarah Calkin are assistant coaching.

Day 1

403 woke up to the venomous sting of the Vipers from Vulcan for an early 8:00 start to our Saturday. This was followed by a 10:15 game against SAVC Shock. Round robin play ended up with the third game against Calgary’s Apex. This was a hard-fought game, but 403 managed another win in two sets to emerge first in their pool.

As part of their Give Back Initiative, the girls wore their pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness to the all-important crossover game at Glenmore Christian Academy. It was an exciting match full of close rallies and hard hits against the formidable Ace of Diamonds (Black). They won in two sets to go to the quarterfinals.

Day 2

Day 2 started with 403 facing the dynamic and tenacious Canuck Reds. After two hard-fought and exciting sets, the Selects advanced to the semifinals. The Selects met Ace of Diamonds (Red) in the semifinal, and battled to victory. Just as they did last year, 403 met the Dinos in the Premier #1 final match, this time emerging with the gold medal.

The girls would like to thank all coaches and parents for their support throughout the weekend! It was a fantastic start to the season.
