The 15U team was ranked 16th heading into Div 1 provincials last weekend (May 1st and 2nd). The girls knew that they would have some tough games ahead of them in order to move up in the rankings as they hoped. The girls had all been working hard on individual and team skills, as well as goal setting, positive thinking strategies and mental toughness development to prepare for this big event.

Saturday proved that all of this preparation was well worth it. Attitudes were positive and the girls showed some real drive and determination in the round robin games on Saturday. Our first game was against Canuck Flash. We had beaten and been beaten by them before and the girls played hungry for the win, beating them handily. Next was Lethbridge Flare. This was a tough team and although 403 played some of their best rallies the coaches had seen to date, they came up a bit short. Finally the girls were up against Queens Ultimate. Once again the girls stepped up to the plate with a strong fight and earned themselves not only the win, but a first place finish in their pool. The coaches were extremely proud of the way the girls played on Saturday.

Our cross-over match on Saturday afternoon was a tough one. 403 was up against Park, who were ranked 3rd going in to the tournament. We fell behind in the first set, only to come back full bore and take a set off of Park. We did not win the match, but once again, the coaches were extremely proud of the way that the girls dug deep to take a set off of their opponents.

Sunday morning, we played Killam Spartans and took the match in two games. 403 15U showed us all that they could play solid and steady, point for point to the end of the match. A great contribution was made by all of the girls.

The final match for the day took place against the Saint Albert Saints. After some tough matches on both Saturday and Sunday, our team fought hard, but came up short in the game that would have gotten us to the 9th place match. Following the game there were some long and tired faces. The coaches did their best to make sure that the girls recognized the successes of the weekend. The team moved themselves up 5 spots in the rankings and are now extremely close to being in the top 10 15U teams in the province. This is indeed something to be proud of. Each worked hard and contributed in their own way to the team and to our great game play over the two days. Congratulations to the 15u girls for a great 2010 provincials!
