The 403 Selects 15U girls were in strong form this past weekend at the VA 1 South Premier, held in Calgary. In pool play, they won six consecutive sets against Ace of Diamonds Red, SLVC Wave and TSAVC White at the Crescent Point Fieldhouse at Aldersyde. The crossover action continued in the evening at the Genesis Centre in N.E. Calgary, where the 403 Selects faced LVC Impact. Familiar opponents from the previous weekend in the Lethbridge tourney, LVC pushed the 403 Selects team with some strong defence before the Selects prevailed in 2.

The second day of tournament play continued back at the Genesis Centre on Sunday. The 403’s started morning playoff action with the same momentum from the day before, defeating Canuck Black 25-13 in the first set and 25-12 in the second, landing them into the top 4. In semi-final action the Selects began in similar fashion against the Dinos. A fast start with both teams exchanging points, a resilient 403 Selects team won 25-15, then 25-17. A spot in the finals and matchup with Seven Persons Wolves awaited.

The stellar game play from both teams competing in the finals kept spectators on the edge of their seats. The first set was taken by 403 with a 25-10 win, the second by the Wolves with a score of 26-24. The third and final set of the tournament saw the 403 Selects girls take the Division 1 Gold Medal,15-12. Overall, a wonderful weekend and a great start to the VA Premiere campaign by the 403 Selects 15U team.

Next up, a trip to Phoenix for the AAU Festival Fiesta.

Best of luck in the U.S.A., girls!
