Calgary was taken over by 13U Volleyball Teams this past weekend! Six huge venues hosted the 44 teams who arrived from all over Alberta, the City of Calgary and parts of British Columbia. It was an incredible very first VA Premier tournament for the 13U teams! The final matches were played out at the Junior Varsity Centre on Sunday. 403 Selects 13U Purple advanced through two days of fierce competition to play for Bronze on the final day!

Day One 

The first game of the tournament was up against Black Gold Volleyball Club. During their first set, 403 Selects Purple experienced the high level of competition at their first ever VA Premier. They lost the first set, 22-25. The second set proved that the 13Us could work extremely well under pressure. They won their second set 25-11 and took the third set 15-9. Game two against Jr. Canucks Noir mirrored their first game. 403 Selects Purple lost the first set 23-25, but were able to take wins in the last two sets of the match 25-18 and 15-5.  The girls were ready for game three against SPVC Blizzard. Their first set ended with a win, 25-18. Continued strong court communication in the final two sets allowed the girls to take the last two; 25-17 and finally 25-20!  These three match victories immediately advanced the girls into the crossover match against Edmonton’s FOG Red. The first set was extremely close, but 403 Purple came up short and lost by two; 23-25. The girls, once again playing under pressure, finished strong with two wins, 25-22 and 15-3!!  These 13U athletes advanced into the top 8 teams in Alberta!


Day Two 

It was an early start on Sunday for 403 Selects Purple! They met their first opponent, ACE Red , who they had battled against previously in their Sunday Super League games. 403 Selects won a very tight first set, 25-23!  ACE proved to be a strong defensive team, and 403 Selects suffered a close loss in the second set 22-25. The girls showed their strength once again under pressure and took the final set of the match, 15-5.

The second game of the day was against the Rhinos. The Rhinos were aggressive with their offense, and 403 Selects battled, but came up short; 13-25, and finally 17-25. The Rhinos advanced to the play in the Gold medal match. 13U Selects Purple would play for Bronze against the Pandas! The first set had the crowd on the edge of their seats for both sides. Panda’s came out on top with a win of 25-27. The second and final set was also extremely close. The result ended with the Pandas stealing the final win with 22-25.

403 Selects 13U Purple were so proud of their commitment to each other and to the team. First time experiencing a VA Premier, and 403 Selects Purple had placed 4th out of 44 amazing teams!  The girls are looking forward to their second Alberta Premier at the end of this month in Edmonton!
