It was another exciting weekend for the 403 Selects Black squad as they set out on their only road trip of the season.  They were ready to roll in match 1 of pool play against NAVC White with a straight-set victory 25-19 and 25-21.  The second match started off very promising as well with a 25-21 victory against Fort Sask Attack, followed by a down to the wire 24-26 setback.  The deciding set didn’t go the Select’s way as they fell 15-7 in the tiebreaker.  The final match in pool play was against the very tough TSAVC West. After an electrifying 28-26 win for 403 Black in the opening set, TSAVC West roared back to win 25-21 and 15-7.  They also went on to finish 3rd in the first division.  Great effort against a strong team!
So with a 3rd place finish in pool D, 403 would draw a difficult crossover match against Pandas Chikara.  Down a player already, the second tournament-ending ankle injury occurred in this match as well, proving too much for the squad to overcome.
Sunday was an early 8:00 AM start and with only 6 players fatigue began to set in through the morning.  We were able to get past Rhinos white in match 1, but then succumbed to TSAVC Attack in match 2.  In their final match of the weekend, they came up just short against NAVC Maroon for a 12th place finish.
The reduced roster gave an opportunity for several players to take on an expanded role, and all did a fantastic job of stepping up and making a difference!  Great job ladies – can’t wait for provincials to see you put it all together!
