This 3 day event was held in the Olympic Oval at University of Calgary. As per usual, we can’t have a May long weekend without a couple of inches of snowfall! Saturday morning started off early with an 8:30am start for our preliminary matches; playing WVC Wave from Manitoba; we came out very strong in that first match, winning 14-25; but couldn’t keep up the momentum, losing in three 16-25 and 10-15. We seemed to have lost some steam after that – losing to FVVC Blitz 13-25 and 19-25, followed by Canuck Black 16-25 and 17-25.

Sunday start was 7:30am, with big fat snowflakes coming down and the power pool matches. We won our first match vs Ducks Jack from BC 25-19 and 25-23 and we carried this winning record for the rest of the day, against two Saskatchewan teams – the Jr Sundogs 25-22, 25-12 followed by Saskatoon Smash 25-23 and 25-14. It felt great to end the day on a high note and with the knowledge that we had made it to the Tier 2 quarter final.

We had many fans for our quarter final match, and again came out very strong in our first match winning 25-15. However, we just couldn’t keep it going and closed out this sudden death match losing 10-25 and 7-15. It was a disappointing loss, however the team as a whole has improved so much over the season and is 14th in the province overall.
We will finish up the year with our much anticipated windup party on May 31! Thanks for a great year of volleyball girls and for making us parents so proud of all that your hard work has accomplished this season. Good luck to those of you who are about to start your beach season – stay healthy and happy this summer!
