Santisouk Phommachakr

Santisouk is entering her 15th year of coaching volleyball.

Santisouk grew up playing school and club volleyball (15U to 18U) in Montréal, Québec where she was awarded on the all-star regional team in her grade 11 season and also, athlete of the year in her grade 12.   Santisouk then joined the McGill University Martlets Volleyball Varsity team while completing her Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. She and her team played at the 1997 CIAU in Edmonton.  After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she was offered an engineer position in Calgary, where she moved to in 1998.  Santisouk still plays competitive volleyball as a setter on the U.N. Masters team which competes in a women’s Tier 1 league, tournaments, Provincials, Nationals and also at the World Masters.

Apart from volleyball, she enjoys traveling the world, trekking, yoga, surfing, birding, cooking and spending time with her friends and family.  She is also a nature, wildlife and sport photographer which is another of her passion.  On rainy days, she likes to spend time in her darkroom.

Santisouk’s coaching philosophy is to develop players to the best of their potential (to hopefully pursue volleyball at the post-secondary level if desired).  Her coaching is focused on high expectations and goals based on technical development, work ethic and team work in a positive environment. She also strongly believes in the benefits of the sport in the player’s growth in life.

“I hope to pass along my passion for the sport of volleyball to future athletes.  Outside from my engineering and photography work, I sleep and breathe volleyball. If I’m not playing, I’m coaching, if I’m not coaching, I’m thinking or watching volleyball… or simply, hanging out with Volleyball friends. I’m very excited and thrilled to be part of 403 and to work with Nick and Kristina and looking forward to a great season!”
