2016 Provincials found the 403 15U girls once again in the top power pool and the Saturday match ups certainly did not disappoint, delivering some high caliber play! Finishing 3rd with a 1-2 record on the day there was steady improvement for our girls in each match.

Facing a feisty SAS Valour team in the cross over, the 403 Select 15s had a solid showing taking the first set handedly 25-10. SAS Valour was not going to go quietly however and fought hard in the second set, pushing our girls to their limit. Our girls responded to the challenge, taking the set and match decisively and moving forward into the provincial quarter finals.

Sunday morning’s quarter final matchup was with the NAVC Griffins Black. A team fielding 9 players, they came out swinging in the first set. Our girls fought back but were unable to overcome their slow start. Finally finding their groove, our 15s took the second set sending the match to 3! In a hard fought battle, the girls fell 12-15 to a very determined Griffins team!

Disappointed but not done for the day, the girls refocused to face off against their cross town rival SAVC Flare and the opportunity to play for 5th. The 403s played their best volleyball of the day and took the match easily 2-0.

This set up the final game of the day with another longtime rival, the Seven Persons Wolves. In an up and down 3 set battle, the girls came up just short, losing 14-16 to finish 6th overall in Alberta.

Although it didn’t turn out how they had hoped, a lot was learned and they are taking that back to the gym to make final preparations for Nationals in Regina. The girls still have something to prove, and they have one final competition to show what they truly can do. Watch for it!
