5th Place at Premier 2 for 14U Girls!

Entering VA Premiere 2 this past weekend, the 14U girls were facing strong teams that had all earned their spot in Division 1.  The pool play was very challenging, and each game went to a third set to decide the outcome.  The girls started strong with a win against FOG Infinity, but dropped the next two to EKVC Blue and CP Panthers.  As happens a lot with competitive pools, three teams were 1-2 and some complex tie-breaking was needed to determine places 2 – 4.  403 Selects finished in third, which placed them against Canuck Mojo for the crossover.  The two teams turned out to be very evenly matched, but the girls played strong and had some great serving, which helped them win in two close sets,  26-24 and 25-23.  It was a key win that secured them a place in the top eight for the tournament.  In fact, all teams in their pool won their crossover games, highlighting how competitive the round robin was for them.

Sunday morning found them facing the CP Panthers again.  This game was not their best showing and they were soundly beaten in two sets.  After this tough loss, they would have to shake it off and regroup for their final game of the tournament.  They faced Canuck Vibe (winner of Premiere 1 south) and were a completely different team from the previous game.  They cruised to a 2 set victory and certainly demonstrated how well they could bounce back from adversity.

Great finish in a tough, challenging tournament.  On to Provincials!
