The 18U team took part in a two day intensive training program this past weekend in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The team was graciously billeted by Coach Stonehouse’s parents Brian and Pamela Stonehouse, who kept everyone fed and allowed the ladies to take over their house for the weekend. In addition to three on-court training sessions the team also trained their minds by taking part in mental skill training sessions that focused on goal setting and mental imagery. In addition to providing the girls with valuable lessons on the court, the coaching staff also gave a free tenpin bowling lesson with Assistant Coach J.B. McLean bowling an impressive 200 on Saturday evening.

New recruit to the Club, Kelsey Labodi, commented on the camp. “I thought this weekend was important for me to get to know the girls and the coaches to learn more about the team’s dynamics. The mental aspect of the camp was beneficial, and I learned new ways of getting into the mindset that I need to be in for matches, and even practices. I think that it was a really great weekend overall.”

Kari Acheson, no stranger to 403 Selects had this to say about the weekend. “I thought this weekend was really good because we spent time together as a team that we wouldn’t have spent together otherwise. The practices were really focused, but we also had a lot of fun. After this weekend I felt a lot closer with the team and we have so many more inside jokes. I think everyone had a good time and learned a lot about each other and the game.”

“Our goal for this weekend was to develop our team chemistry both on and off the court,” stated Head Coach Steve Mape.”In addition to several training sessions both the athletes and coaches had the opportunity to spend time getting to know each other on more personal level. This was an important weekend for us”.

The 18U team will step on court for their first competition on February 4th in Calgary for the NorCal U17/U18 tournament before heading to Las Vegas for the Southern California Volleyball Association Las Vegas Classic.
