NICK DAVIES - Head Coach

Nick Davies

Head Coach

Nick has been involved with the sport of volleyball for the last 14 years as an athlete, coach, referee & volunteer. Nick’s coaching philosophy involves guiding student-athletes into well rounded whole people. He brings extensive technical & tactical coaching knowledge drawn from the post-secondary, club and volleyball canada development centre levels. For there is much more to the sport of volleyball than what happens between the court lines… it’s more about what happens between a person’s ears that counts.

Nick played volleyball through club, finishing with four years in the ACAC. In 2010, he was a member of the SAIT Trojans team that won the program’s first ACAC Championship in 25 years. In his final season, he was named captain and finalist for Male Athlete of the Year. He finished his post-secondary career in the top 20 for all time conference digs playing as a leftside, libero and setter. Nick’s younger brother is in his fifth year as libero for the Brandon University Bobcats.

This is Nick’s third season with 403 Selects as a coach and first season as a member of the club’s Executive Board. Character development and team unity rank high on the list of values for this 18U team heading into their last club season before graduation..

SANTISOUK PHOMMACHAKR - Assistant Coach

Santisouk Phommachakr

Head Coach

contact: coachsanti@403selects.ca

Santisouk is entering her 20th year of coaching volleyball.

Santisouk grew up playing school and club volleyball (15U to 18U) in Montréal, Québec where she was awarded on the all-star regional team in her grade 11 season and also, athlete of the year in her grade 12.   Santisouk then joined the McGill University Martlets Volleyball Varsity team while completing her Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. She and her team played at the 1997 CIAU in Edmonton.  After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she was offered an engineer position in Calgary, where she moved to in 1998.  Santisouk still plays competitive volleyball as a setter on the U.N. Masters team which competes in a women’s Tier 1 league, tournaments, Provincials, Nationals and also at the World Masters.

Apart from volleyball, she enjoys traveling the world, trekking, yoga, surfing, birding, cooking and spending time with her friends and family.  She is also a nature, wildlife and sport photographer which is another of her passion.  On rainy days, she likes to spend time in her darkroom.

Santisouk’s coaching philosophy is to develop players to the best of their potential (to hopefully pursue volleyball at the post-secondary level if desired).  Her coaching is focused on high expectations and goals based on technical development, work ethic and team work in a positive environment. She also strongly believes in the benefits of the sport in the player’s growth in life.

“I hope to pass along my passion for the sport of volleyball to future athletes.  Outside from my engineering and photography work, I sleep and breathe volleyball. If I’m not playing, I’m coaching, if I’m not coaching, I’m thinking or watching volleyball… or simply, hanging out with Volleyball friends. I’m very excited and thrilled to be part of 403 and to work with Nick and Kristina and looking forward to a great season!”

    SHELBY LAUSEN - Mentoring Coach

      Shelby Lausen

      Mentoring Coach

Shelby started playing volleyball in grade 9 for the Wheatland Aces.

From there she went on to play all three years on the senior volleyball team at Strathmore High School where she was co-captain in her grade 12 year.

After Aces, Shelby came into Calgary for volleyball and joined the 403 Selects in their first year as a club. She stayed with 403 for the next 3 years and was a co-captain 2 of the 3 years.

Playing for 403 lead to her playing down in the States at North Idaho College. While there, Shelby was moved from the middle out to the right side and was able to help her team make it to the National Tournament both years where they finished 8th and 9th in the country. At NIC she was also a co-captain her second year.

After her two years down in Idaho were up, Shelby came back to Calgary to attend and play at Mount Royal University. Unfortunately while playing at MRU, an old knee injury led to her having to undergo surgery and eventually quit playing altogether.

Shelby is currently finishing her last year at Mount Royal and will be graduating in April with her English degree. She plans to go on to get her education degree and one day become a high school teacher.
