What a great weekend for the 403 Select 16U team. Perhaps what can only be thought of as foreshadowing for the glowing weekend long performance on the court the weather in the San Francisco area was sunny and hot. Not a bad way to spend an extended weekend in February cheering on our fine athletes as they challenged teams from across the US and Canada. Just like the weather a few clouds would periodically arise over the weekend but nothing that was not quickly swept away by the radiance and exceptional determination displayed by the 403 athletes.

This year once again our athletes were the very fortunate recipients of the hospitality of the Stanford volleyball team. Our players and coaches were given in essence an all access pass to the world class facilities utilized by the university athletes attending Stanford. A special moment was an interactive session with the Stanford head coach and some current players. We thank the members of the Stanford volleyball program who were so gracious with their time and showed such wonderful hospitality to our athletes.
The weekend was not just all about volleyball. The team took advantage of some free time to explore the area and bond as a team. One such highlight was when coaches Nick and Santisouk hosted the girls for a sunset picnic on the beach at Half Moon Bay. The girls returned back to the hotel full of laughter and great memories ready to take the court the next day.

With some fun and sun sprinkled in the primary reason of the team traveled to the San Francisco area was of course to challenge themselves against some exceptional volleyball teams at an 18U tournament. Our 16U girls entered the weekend feeling a bit uncertain as to what they would encounter. We should be so proud of what they accomplished. They won two of three matches on the first day of the tournament which meant they were flighted in a championship tier for the balance of the weekend. While the girls were not able to win any other matches they battled hard every game and in most cases only lost their final sets by a couple of points. A top 40 placing in this tournament is a great accomplishment.

The experience our athletes gained on the trip and the friendships that are becoming cemented will undoubtedly pay huge dividends as the 2015 club season kicks into high gear.

Update: The 16U team placed 29th out of 87 teams in the 17U/18U Division!
