January 27 marked the first round of tournament play for the 16U 403 Selects girls at the Rally Pointe 17/18 Open. It was a quality 16 team draw and the girls were able to see a lot of court time with 6 games throughout the day against older competition. The tournament format and officiating was exceptional and important for simulating VA Premier situations.

They started their morning with wins against SAVC Shock 18, Ace of Hearts 17/18 and Queens 17. 403 finished first in their pool that saw them matched up against Canada West 17/18 in the quarterfinals. A win there took them to the semis where they played the Ace of Clubs Black team. The final game was played against Wham out of Taber, AB. It was a nail-biter of a game right until the very last points. They were definitely playing against a tough and talented group of ladies. The Selects were down by a 1-7 score at the outset of the 3rd set and it was great to see them dig deep and battle back to win gold 17-15! They showed exemplary teamwork and really supported each other on the court.

Thank you to Rally Pointe for the excellent tournament, all the talented teams for the competition and to all our families for your support.

Congrats to the girls and the coaches on a successful day!

Next up, the 16s have a training camp weekend before a trip south of the border for the President’s Day Classic in San Jose, California.
