A strong finish at Provincials placed the 16U 403 Selects in an extremely competitive Division 1 for Calgary 2015 Nationals.

Round Robin

The 16U Selects team began the tournament with a 7:30 a.m. national anthem in the Olympic Oval and across the net from the British Columbia provincial champion FVVC. After dropping the first set, 403 looked to have turned things around, up 14-6. However, FVVC would fight back to take the match 2-0. Inconsistencies would continue and the team was a 2-0 loss to Airborne (BC3). The Selects best full match of the day was against the Junior Huskies(SK4), losing two highly contested sets, 25-20 and 26-24.

Power Pool

Panthers (AB5) and 403 are familiar opponents this season, meeting in every tournament except for Premier #2. Panthers would go on to win this round in two tight sets. 403 then came up just short in another competitive contest with FCVC (ON8) 2-1. Getting back on track to close out the day, the 16U Selects beat Tigers VC (NS1) 2-1, again going the full three sets. This meant a third place finish on Day 2.

Final Day

Do or die was the theme on playoff Saturday at the University of Calgary, and to start the day – 403 was up to the challenge. Selects aggressive serving and attacking was too much for PGYVC Kodiaks (BC6), securing a 25-16, 25-19 win. SAVC Storm AB7) was next in 403’s path, and hung on to come out on top 15-13 of a heated third set.
