After a solid 7th place finish in Premier 2, the 16U 403 Selects headed into Premier 3 in Power Pool B at home in Calgary at the fantastic Genesis Centre.

Day One

Day one began with a match up against the PRVC Revolution from Peace River. The girls had played them at the last VA Premier in Edmonton but were unwilling to admit defeat this time around, taking the match in two with scores of 25-16 and 25-20. Playing back to back, the girls next squared off against SAVC Flare and after a close 28-26 first set, finished with a convincing 25-20 second set victory. Taking a much needed break to refuel, the girls returned to the court for their final pool play game against some familiar faces from the Cougars Volleyball Club. Trading points the entire way and providing some great volleyball for the crowd the girls lost the first set 22-25, won the second 25-20 and although tied up at 11-11, fell short in the third to finish 2nd in their pool. The all important cross over game found the Selects up against a very determined Ace of Clubs Black team. Having lost to the 403s in this exact cross over match in Premier 2, the Aces were not ready for a repeat performance and brought great energy to the match. The 16s battled the whole way but lost 23-25 in the first and despite a solid lead in the second were unable to force a third. With heavy hearts, and out of the top 8 for this premier, they headed home for the night.

Day Two

Refocused and rested, day two brought a morning match up with Lethbridge Flare that went three and ended with a 15-10 triumph for the Selects! The 403s next played the Dinos, losing in two to their formidable rivals. NAVC Black was the last game of the day and started off slow for the Selects. After some changes late in the first set, the girls rallied back and the momentum began to shift. The second set went to the 403 Selects and with that, they were back in it for a third and deciding set! Although the win went to the NAVC Black Griffins, it was a close and very solid third set (15-17). Way to work together and finish strong ladies!! We are looking forward to seeing you all at Provincials!
