Travelling to Edmonton is always an adventure. This past weekend did not disappoint. The team came together Friday night in the Provincial Capital to take on the top volleyball clubs in Alberta. The team’s goal was to place in the top 8 to secure a good position for the upcoming Provincial Championships at the end of the month.

Our young ladies had the power pool of power pools. The challengers were strong teams, Dino’s, SPVC, and Seven Persons, all with long-standing records of performing well. Our 403’s excelled and played solidly. While they ended up taking second place in their power pool, a highlight for them was beating the Dino’s, particularly after narrowly losing Premier 2’s final to them prior. This was a solid performance for the girl’s to which most importantly, they now know they can compete with every team in the province! The 403’s now know, without any doubt, that they can do it!

While the Dino’s victory was symbolic, a personal favourite match was the quarter final on Sunday. The girls truly played as a team. They fought hard, dug deep, coordinated all their plays and most of all, were strategic. You could see the cunning and thoughtful placement of balls into the small bits of court left undefended. These were not accidental placements but lighting sharp slams or gentle tips specifically targeted. That game was what our team has worked towards for the year, and they performed!

This set up a semi-final rematch with the Dino’s once more. Dropping the first set, and what looked to be like a repeat of last Premier’s final, it was not to be as 403 dropped the match 0-2 to set up a Bronze final to follow. The weekend was filled with emotional ups and downs, and the bronze match had it’s own share of dramatic events. This time however, Canuck Black prevailed, and 403 finished in the top 4 for the third straight Premier tournament.

A tremendous learning experience in our losses have provided us with much needed and valuable information to take back to our practice gym and start to prepare for Provincial Championships at the end of April. With hard work and determination in the gym, 403 will be ready! We know that our exceptional 403 young ladies will continue to practice and work on meshing together to take on the entire province 15U line up!
