It was an exciting weekend for the 403 Selects Volleyball Club! The 14u girls played in their first VA Premiers on February 25-26 here in Calgary, and were fierce competitors!

Day 1

Feelings of excitement and anticipation ran high on Saturday as the games began! For the first game of the tournament in round robin play, the girls faced Aces White. They quickly set the pace of the game and won in two sets. Next they met up with Taber Wham Extreme. Again our girls came out strong, winning 2-0. The third game of the day was played against Canuck Surge. The girls played strong, winning the first set 25-20 and the second set 25-17. It was a successful day for the Selects, coming through round robin play undefeated! With a 3 game break the girls headed out for some recovery time before their crossover match to end the day against Brooks Elite. Although both teams came out determined, the Selects out-played Brooks and won in 2 sets.

Day 2

Advancing to the quarter finals the next competition was Aces. 403 continued their winning streak and took this match also in 2 sets. The semi-finals had us paired up against the SEAVC Rattlers. The girls played an exciting, fast-paced first game, winning by a score of 25-17. In the second set, the Rattlers retaliated with a 19-25 win. The third set was so close, but unfortunately the Ratters inched ahead and won 12-15. This brought us to the bronze medal match against TSAVC. With an amazing first set, the girls came out ahead 25-21. TSAVC challenged us in the next set and won 23-25. However, our girls had their hearts set on winning and went into the third set with determination. It was with this strong spirit that our girls won the last set 15-4 , and became the bronze medal winners of the tournament!

It was such a terrific weekend for 403 Selects 14U – spending time together, both competing and bonding as a team was such a great way to start off our season.

We are looking forward to competing against these teams again in Edmonton for VA Premier 2 on March 18-19!
