Seventy-two 14U teams converged in Calgary this weekend for Volleyball Alberta Provincial Championships. The 403 Selects entered the tournament seeded 5th, and were looking forward to the opportunity to improve their standing with a strong tournament.  Their pool started off with a solid two set win against PRVC-A (25-23, 25-21).  The next match was against Canuck Black, which has been some great volleyball all season in previous matches.   403 Selects took the first set (25-21), before dropping a close second set (25-22), to set up a deciding third set.  After a solid start, 403 maintained control of the set to take it 15-12.  Pool play ended against FOG Hawks, a tough serving and defensively sound team.  FOG Hawks took the match in two tightly contested sets (19-25, 23-25).

Pool play ended in a 3-way tie for 1st!  We came out third in that tie breaker setting up our crossover match against the Lady Rhinos Volleyball Club. 403 saved the best for last on this day, playing their most consistent volleyball of the tournament.   The Selects had control of the match the entire way taking it 2 straight sets (25- 14, 25 – 20).  Top 8 on the day, the girls held their heads high with a job well done!

Sunday playoffs!  Our quarterfinal match was against Canuck Black once again! This time the Selects came out focused and serving hard.  The match was entirely controlled by 403, anchored by Jade and Jenna putting together incredible service ace and point runs.  Led by this incredible play, 403 established and help maintained what turned out to be insurmountable leads.   The match was won 2-0 (25-10, 25-16).  Way to go girls!  You earned a well-deserved one hour break before semifinals vs. SEAVC Rattlers!  Top 4!

Semifinals were an outstanding display of volleyball by both teams.  The girls dropped a close first set 24-26 to the Rattlers, then rallied to win the second set 25-19.   Strong serving once again took decisive control of the third and deciding set and led to a 15-8 victory!   403 Selects earned a berth in the 14U Volleyball Alberta Provincial Championship and a date on centre court for the finals was confirmed with South Peace Volleyball Club Meerkats!  Top 2!

The SPVC Meerkats entered the tournament as the number one seed.  SPVC has been tough, well rounded, hard hitting team all season.   Undaunted, the girls went to work with some solid passing and serving.   Falling behind quickly in the first set, 403 battled back and came up short 16-25.  The second set proved to be much closer.   However, once again, the Meerkats were on top of their game and took the set 21-25 and the match 2-0.  It was a tough played final match.  The girls earned a silver medal in the 2015 Volleyball Alberta Provincial Championships!  The girls ended a fantastic weekend of volleyball with Silver hardware around their neck, wide grins on their faces and with proud parents and family members snapping tons of pictures to capture the moment. Congratulations girls, we’re so proud of you!

The 403 Selects Volleyball club extends heart-felt congratulations to the South Peace Volleyball Club on claiming the title of 2015 Provincial Champions and look forward to future matches next season!
