Wow – what a weekend! The 13U girls played their first VA Premier on Feb 27-28th in Edmonton and had outstanding results!

Saturday started off round robin play with game #1 against Potential VC from Yellowknife. Even with some first game jitters in the mix, the girls won 25-21 and 25-15. Game #2 was against SAS Valour from St. Albert and they won two straight sets with scores of 25-18 and 25-12. In game #3 they faced the NAVC Griffins White and went to three sets but came out victorious – 25-12/18-25/15-12. Great job for coming out of round robin undefeated!! Saturday ended with our first playoff game against the Jaguars Black team from Cochrane. Even though they were tired from the day, they once again came out on top in two straight sets – 25-7/25-9. After a long day, it was time to head back to the hotel for some much needed dinner and more team bonding.

Sunday morning had us paired up against the Dynamite team from Dawson Creek. The first set was a nail biter with us coming out victorious with a 26-24 win. After that close one, they made the next set less stressful for the parents with a 25-15 win and a move forward in the playoff draw. The semi finals had us paired up against the U of A Pandas. After losing the first set 27-25, the girls rallied back to win the next two with scores of 25-19/15-9!! We were now off to the gold medal match showdown against the Peak team out of Okotoks. With an amazing first set from both teams, the girls unfortunately lost by a sliver…25-23. But the heart of this team was not ready to quit….they came back in two straight sets 25-23/15-8 and were officially gold medal winners and completely undefeated in the tournament!

It was a fantastic weekend of volleyball and team bonding for these girls. Amazing job! Enjoy those medals and memories and we’re all looking forward to watching you on March 19-20th here in Calgary for Premier #2!
